What draws you in?

Seaweed and colour inspiration

I have a friend who is fascinated with lichen. She is an artist and is exploring lichen in her work. I love the beach. I love to walk on the beach. I love the feel of sand in my toes and the sound of the waves as I walk.

Seaweed is beautiful

What I love most about the beach is the seaweed. I would say I am fascinated with seaweed. There are so many types of seaweed and these types seem to vary with the season and according to whether there has been a storm recently. The other day on my beach walk at low tide there were large piles of seaweed.

Seaweed can have fascinating structure

One thing I love about seaweed is the surprising pops of colour. The lime green amongst the burgundy, yellow and browns. I realized that while I have hooked several mats with the ocean as part of the mat I have never explored seaweed as a theme. So this fall my intention is to photograph and sketch and ink (yes, ink – I’m trying something new!) and eventually hook a series of seaweed inspired abstracts.

Is there something in nature that fascinates and inspires you? You might try to journal (or draw, or hook, or create) about why you think it draws you in. And of course, I’d love to hear about it, so please drop me a line and let me know.
